The week of March 31st I worked on finishing out my Bookstore. I met with my group members and Elizabeth to discuss my work. The feedback that I received was mostly about my millwork. There were small things that I needed to fix in each of my drawings. I have also been working on my project book and Master Specs. It is time consuming and tedious, but it is getting done.

The week of March 10th we worked on putting our boards and construction document layouts together. I figured out how many boards I was going to need and how many construction document pages I am going to need. I continued to work on my millwork and fix small details in my floor plan. Everyday I find something else in my floor plan that I did wrong. After spring break we will be working on finishing out each part of our Capstone project one week at a time.

During the week of March 3rd I worked on finalizing my designs and beginning millwork. On Monday my group members gave me some great feedback on my design details. Elizabeth gave me feedback for my millwork and elevations. There were some elevations drawn that I did not need because they were going to be shown in perspective. I picked out more of my furniture and started really deciding on colors and fabrics that I wanted in my building. It is hard finding furniture and design that will go with my Dr. Seuss theme. I am having to do a lot of custom designs such as bookshelves and play equipment.

The week of Feb. 24 we worked on sections and volumetric design as well as refining FF&E, floor plans, and elevations. I started working on what parts of my project I wanted to show the most. Trying to decide what I wanted to show as perspectives and what I wanted to show as elevations was the hardest part. I found some fun lighting that I wanted to incorporate in each of my sections as a focal light. I need to refine my section most of all and fix a few small things in my floor plan.

Schematic Floor Plans/ Elevation

Last week I worked on my floor plan and some elevations. I discussed with Elizabeth my floor plan and the stair addition. I have been researching Fire Rated stairs to add to my Capstone project. After my meeting I realized I need to work on finalizing my floor plan, additional elevations, and more detailed FF&E. Next week I will be working on volumetric sketches and sections of my building along with the updated drawings.

Capstone Schematics

Over the break I began thinking of what the names of my businesses should be and what the theme of my Daycare should be. After running ideas past different people I finally came up with the theme of my Daycare. My Daycare will be named “Oh The Places We Will Go.” It will be Dr. Seuss themed. Each room will be designed as a different story (Horton Hears a Who, The Lorax, Green Eggs and Ham, Etc.) I haven’t created name for my bookstore or café yet, but I think it would be fun the include the “Tulsa Paper Company” Signage that is currently still on the building. I am still thinking and will hopefully figure it out by the end of the week. I do know that I want the bookstore to resemble a kind of antique bookstore. I want the café to coordinate with that and be a very laid back environment.
This week we have been working on stack plans and schematic plans. My building has a lot of columns in it so it has been a challenge trying to figure out a good layout for the space. The bookstore and Café on the first floor was not as hard to figure out a layout as the Daycare upstairs. There is only one way to enter for all the spaces, so I have to figure out a way to create three different layouts with the reception always in the same spot. After about a week of working on it I finally figured out three layouts that might work.
On Monday I met with Kristen and Blythe. They liked what I had so far, but gave me some ideas of how I could change up a few things. They chose which layouts they liked the best so I know what to move on with. They did not have much more advice for me, only to watch out for where the windows are and try design the space around the windows. I think after Wednesday’s meeting I will have a better feel for the plans and know how to move forward in the design.
